Company Description
Custom Processing Services is a contract manufacturer (toll processor) offering micronizing, ultra-fine grinding, blending, surface treating, heat treating and packaging for materials such as chemicals, pharmaceutical excipients, waxes and minerals just to name a few. Clients send their materials to Custom Processing Service's facilities, where they are processed and shipped back to the client or directly to the end-user. CPS is registered to ISO 9001:2000 by QMI and is a member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ.)
Company History
In 1998, Gregg Shemanski, after twenty years of working in the toll processing industry, founded Custom Processing Services. A short while later, Jeff Klinger, another processing professional, paired with Gregg and the duo secured their first manufacturing facility, in Reading, PA. They selected technologically advanced air jet milling equipment to outfit their plant and were ready to process the first customer’s material in December 2000. One by one, their client base grew, orders increased, and in 2004, CPS added a second plant, bringing manufacturing capacity to 57,000 sq. ft. In 2005, a trucking company named Birchmont Transport was formed to ship customers’ products. In 2006, CPS was awarded an Entrepreneurial Achievement Award by the Ben Franklin Technology Partners.
2007 Summary
In 2007, Custom Processing Services was recognized by the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry as one of the area’s top ten growth companies. In the firm’s continuing search for business opportunities, CPS acquired a materials processing plant in East Greenville, PA. This 80,000 sq. ft. facility, located on 12+ acres, offers coarse grinding, pulverizing and flash drying of minerals and a variety of other substances. This capability enables Custom Processing Services to function as a single source supplier for minerals, chemicals, and renewable resources. The site also offers rail siding for bulk transport of materials and warehousing space as well.
2008 Expectations
2008 should be another successful year for the company. The major task of integrating the coarse processing facility, with its expanded capabilities, into the established company presents a tremendous opportunity for growth. The synergy between the processing plants and the transportation and logistics services will fuel the continued success of Custom Processing Services and Birchmont Transport. There will be opportunities for employment in the areas of engineering, shipping/receiving, warehousing, maintenance, and mill operation in the coming year.
