CPS receives BFTP grant for co-generation study

Custom Processing Services, Inc., located in Reading, Berks County, has been awarded a Ben Franklin Technology Partners Investment of $25,000 to study the feasibility of developing a co-generation plant to produce electricity primarily for the firm’s manufacturing facility consumption.

Custom Processing Services’ College Partner is the Electrotechnology Applications Center (ETAC) at Northampton Community College.

Together, they will seek to identify and specify a combined heat and power system for a co-generation plant that will utilize opportunity fuels, which are non-polluting waste products that are typically sent to landfills.

Custom Processing Services will examine system and fuel options for the plant that will provide for the company’s electricity needs, and possibly generate surplus electricity. Electricity is a significant cost for CPS, a contract manufacturer that specializes in the micronizing of materials in order to produce ultra-fine particle sizes for use in a wide-range of products.

Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania is located in Bethlehem, PA.
