Custom Processing Services, Inc. (CPS) was founded in 1998 by Gregory Shemanski and Jeffrey Klinger — two experienced professionals with a vision to do things differently.
With backgrounds in chemical engineering, manufacturing, and operations, Gregg and Jeff set out to build more than a contract processing company — they envisioned being a collaborative partner that combined technical know-how with a strong customer focus.
From Trailer Office to Trusted Partner
In the early days, CPS was a two-man operation running out of a single facility in Reading, Pennsylvania. Gregg and Jeff handled everything themselves — sales, shipping, production, trucking — often working long hours and catching sleep in a small trailer onsite. For over a year, they took turns managing every aspect of the business while laying the groundwork for something bigger.
Their hard work paid off. As demand for flexible, high-quality toll processing grew, so did CPS. The company steadily expanded its capabilities, invested in specialized equipment, and opened additional facilities across southeastern Pennsylvania. The need for fast, reliable delivery in Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states prompted a sister-company partnership with Birchmont Transport, which is still in place.
Today, CPS supports a wide range of industries, including:
- Pharmaceuticals
- Food and nutraceuticals
- Specialty chemicals
- Battery and energy materials
- Advanced industrial technologies
No matter how much CPS has grown, one thing has never changed: our commitment to being a knowledgeable, dependable partner that helps customers solve tough challenges and move their innovations forward. We are the architects of what’s possible.
